Reading HW:
PART 1: My priority is to promote the love and enjoyment of reading. I want students to become absorbed in the text (reading in the "zone"), and not reading to complete a response. To this end, I will not have nightly responses to literature, however, I do expect students to be reading approximately 30 minutes a day. To monitor reading progress, I will be conferencing with students during class time weekly to discuss at home reading.
**Parents should question the material that students are reading. This might be nice during dinner or driving to practice. Below is a list of questions. Good questioning helps promote higher level thinking skills.
1. What are some of the main character's traits?
2. Can you relate to the character at all?
3. What is the problem in the story?
4. How do you think the characters will find a resolution to this problem?
5. Which other books that you have read have similar story lines to this one?
6. What do you think the overall theme or message is that the author is trying to convey?
PART 2: Students are responsible for writing 1 response to literature on BLEND once a week based on the prompt provided. The reflection question will be posted on Monday and MUST BE submitted by the following Sunday night. All homework assignments will be averaged together for one homework grade each 9 week grading period.
How do I access BLEND?
1. portal.austinisd.org
2. Log in using a capital S and your student ID number
3. password is a combination of last name initial followed by birthday and lowercase s
for example: My birthday is May 20, 1975 so my password would be: H052075s
4. From the portal, select the tile called BLEND
